Long gone are the days when one used to go through classified advertisements to get a job. Theses days, people are finding jobs through the internet. Technology is drastically changing the way we do our things and has created many job opportunities.
You really need to stand out form the rest in order to get the job. People are using creative means like face book and twitter and they are following some hiring managers who indicate on their status when there is an open position.
Employers are looking for people that use the current means to get information and following them will mean you are interested in the industry and are able to carry out effective research
Some of the most notable social sites used by employers include twitter, LinkedIn, MySpace and face book. There is also the use of instant messaging when you get them online and this is a perfect opportunity to present your skills. You however need to have the qualifications and skills they are looking for to pass the interview.
Many companies do not want to waste lots of money when advertising for job positions. They simply pot them on the company’s social account and the followers will get the information. These positions are usually available immediately and they are often looking fro a replacement. Other companies inform their followers early in advance that they will be conducting interviews or they will be expanding. This will be a perfect opportunity to apply or reefer someone who has the proper qualifications.
This does not mean you follow all the companies and managers available. Select those from the industry you are in or what you choose to do in future. Some people have claimed they got the current positions using these social media sites and they applied immediately because the positions are on demand.
You also need to create a good and decent profile of yourself. Employers’ will look at your account and see what you have included, your discussions and photos you have posted. They are more likely to choose someone who has indicated more on presentable topics and discussions as compared to one who is talking just stuff with friends.
Also the photos you post tell more about your character. Posting photos where you are drinking or are half naked will surely put off the employers. Be original in whatever you do and eh way you carry yourself will decide whether the human resource department will hire you. If you really want to succeed in the social networking department, there are a number of factors you need t put in mind :-
- Create a profile- many people want to know who they are chatting with. Include your full name as opposed to using nick names. State where you are from and what you do for a living
- Include your photo- this is like an interview and the employers like to know who they are dealing with.
- Update your information- if you have just completed a course, indicate it and if you just finished a volunteering job also indicate it. Any advancement that you make in your professional life should always be up to date.
- Make the right connections-choose companies that you have an interest with
- Make decent statements- do not post photos where you are half naked or drinking. This will show you are not serious because employers look for people who are responsible and do not get carried away.
